NEW CHEVROLET MALIBU ECO BOOSTS
FUEL ECONOMY WITH ELECTRIC ASSISTANCE
When it arrives in dealerships early next year, the new Chevrolet
Malibu ECO will offer a GM-estimated highway fuel economy
of 38 mpg and 26 mpg in the city (EPA estimates not yet
available), thanks to a unique electric-assistance system —
known as eAssist™ — that works with the conventional internal-
combustion engine and transmission.
The eAssist system uses power stored in a lithium-ion battery
to provide needed electrical boost in various driving scenarios,
working with a motor-generator unit to help increase fuel
economy through:
• Regenerative braking, which captures energy generated during braking to charge the lithium-ion battery
• Providing some electric power assistance during heavier acceleration to lessen the demand on the internal combustion engine
• Automatic engine shutoff when the vehicle is stopped and automatic start when the gas pedal is pressed
A 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and 6-speed automatic transmission are matched with the eAssist system. And while it’s not a conventional
hybrid system, the fuel economy of the new Malibu ECO is comparable to many hybrid sedans.
Aerodynamics also plays a large part of the Malibu ECO’s highway fuel efficiency. Along
with a body shaped in the wind tunnel, it also features a unique active shutter system in
the lower front grille. In certain situations, when the air intake is least needed — such as
highway driving — the grille shutters close to improve the aerodynamics of the car. When
the shutters close, air is directed around the vehicle instead of through it, creating less drag
as the car moves through the air.
An ECO gauge in the dashboard continuously responds to driving behavior, encouraging
fuel-efficient driving, while another indicator on the tachometer informs the driver when the
engine is in start-stop mode.
The Malibu ECO is based on an all-new, redesigned version of the popular Chevrolet Malibu
midsize sedan and goes on sale in early 2012. More information is available at chevrolet.com.

Chevrolet Suburban – The original SUV
The cost of 1935
By the numbers: The interstate edition
CLASSIC PROFILE:
CHEVROLET SUBURBAN — THE ORIGINAL SUV
In 1935, the United States’ population was a little more than
127 million. A first-class stamp cost 3 cents, Technicolor was
introduced to motion pictures and the Detroit Tigers defeated
the Chicago Cubs in a tough World Series. It was also the year
Chevrolet introduced the Suburban.
In the seven and a half decades since its introduction,
the Suburban became an icon and the industry’s longest
continuously running model, at 76 years and counting.
The idea for the Suburban was born out of a need for a heavier-
duty, truck-based wagon for hauling more people and cargo.
Through the early 1930s, most manufacturers offered car-based
wagons for professional use, but none with the strength of a truck. Chevrolet began experimenting with an all-steel wagon body
mounted on a truck chassis and the Suburban Carryall — its original name — was launched in 1935.
That original Suburban could seat eight and was powered by a six-cylinder engine that produced only 79 horsepower. It cost about
$675, or the equivalent of about $10,900 in 2011 dollars. The 1935 model didn’t come with frontal and side air bags, OnStar, SiriusXM
Satellite Radio, anti-lock brakes and stability control, a 6-speed automatic transmission or remote keyless entry. In fact, a radio, heater,
clock and even a rear bumper were extra-cost options. It might well have been called a sport utilitarian vehicle.
In the post-World War II years, the Suburban’s popularity with customers who appreciated its uncompromising capabilities increased
steadily. It really hit the mainstream in the early 1990s, with the overall popularity of sport utility vehicles. But while many customers were
new to the Suburban then, it had garnered a legion of longtime owners who had purchased multiple examples over the years — using
them to haul Little League teams and their equipment, tow a horse trailer or seat a work crew on the way to a job site.
After 76 years, the Suburban’s specifications may have changed, but its workhorse mission remains the same.

5 WAYS TO SAVE GAS RIGHT NOW ACCORDING TO FUELECONOMY.GOV!
1. Check tire pressure — Underinflated tires generate more friction when driving, reducing fuel efficiency by 0.3 percent for every 1 psi.
2. Use the recommended motor oil — Fuel economy can be affected by up to 2 percent if you use motor oil other than the recommended viscosity.
3. Use cruise control — It helps you maintain a more consistent speed, which can help you save gas.
4. Avoid idling — Yes, it requires gas to restart the engine, but less than is consumed when idling.
5. Lighten your load — Unnecessary heavy items carried in your vehicle can affect fuel economy, so get the junk out of your trunk!
