Distributor
You can read the date code on
the little aluminum ID tag on your
distributor, to find out when your
distributor was manufactured. In the
example shown, this distributor has a
series of stamped numbers. The first
seven digits are just the part number
of your distributor, which can be found
in a GM parts catalog. The three
letters that follow are the date codes,
“5H3”. The first digit, “5” is the year, in
this case 1955. Next, “H” is the eighth
letter of the alphabet, and represents
the 8th month, August. The “3” merely
represents the third day of the month.
So, this example distributor was built
on August 3rd of 1955.
